Buenos Aires: The 100 Barrios
Buenos Aires is known for its colorful and diverse “100 barrios,” fantastic food, and proud inhabitants, the Porteños. Both traditional neighborhoods—home of the Tango and the famed soccer clubs of the city—and younger areas boasting skyscrapers and modern museums are found throughout Buenos Aires. In many of the barrios you’ll find a coexistence between the old and the new, offering an eclectic culture and landscape that has become a trademark of local identity over the years.
DAY ONE
Upon your arrival this morning, you will be met at the airport by a private car and transferred to your boutique hotel in the trendy Palermo neighborhood.
After you’ve had time to settle in, meet your guide for a private tour of the city: The Parisian shaded boulevards, glamorous buildings in Plaza de Mayo where you can’t help but think of Evita Peron, funky neighborhoods like La Boca and others that are a tangle of construction cranes and innovative architecture.
Later stroll through your beautiful surroundings on your own and familiarize yourself with the area. Palermo Viejo, also known as “Palermo Soho” and “Hollywood,” is Buenos Aires’ trendiest neighborhood. Populated by Spanish and Italian immigrants at the turn of the 19th century, Palermo has thrived over the past 10 years, as creative shops, innovative restaurants, and trendy bars continue to emerge.
Over a third of Argentina’s population is of Italian descent, and this evening you can opt for a delicious dinner at a charming Italian canteen. You won’t find a menu here—the waiters simply ask if you’d like red or white wine, after which you’ll be brought seemingly endless platters of Argentine-infused Italian food.

DAY TWO
This morning, following breakfast at your hotel, head to the San Telmo neighborhood on your own for market day. Known for its bohemian charm, quaint and funky, San Telmo is the neighborhood of arts, antiques, tango and timelessness. On Sundays the market comes to life. Centered around the Antiques Fair in Plaza Dorrego, and stretching down the cobblestone Calle Defensa, Artisans, musicians, street performers, and elderly antiques vendors come from near and far to share their treasures and their talents with the public.
Start at the antiques market, which overflows in the Plaza Dorrego with everything from jewelry and dresses, to army helmets and tango records. Exploring the market is like looking through a window into Argentina’s past. If you don't find what you're looking for in the Plaza, stroll down Defensa and there are dozens of well-established and stylish Antique stores to cater to your desires.
Lunch on your own and enjoy some quiet time at your hotel before this afternoon's soccer match.
Soccer is by far the most important sport in Argentina, and for many fans it is quite simply a way of life. Watching a soccer game is one of the most thrilling local experiences a tourist can have in Buenos Aires, and today you will be accompanied by a guide to the stadium, who will translate and explain the etiquette and rituals of the thousands of extremely passionate fans throughout the game.
We will provide suggestions for dinner this evening.

DAY THREE
After breakfast this morning, if you wish to get out for some hiking or cycling, visit the city's ecological reserve, Reserva Ecologica Costanera Sur, the hotel staff, can assist you with transportation. Bicycles are available for rent at the Reserve.
This afternoon, you will venture out on a private graffiti tour of the streets of Buenos Aires. Graffiti is considered a form of contemporary art as it becomes more popular and well respected throughout major cities around the world. Buenos Aires is filled with the colorful urban artwork of great local and international artists, and today you’ll observe walls, visit galleries and shops, and explore the vibrant street art scene in the Colegiales and Palermo neighborhoods. The tour provides a perfect opportunity for you to take colorful pictures, and will end with drinks in a local graffiti bar.
Later, put on your dancing shoes for a one-hour tango lesson with a renowned Argentine Tango instructor and performer.
Dinner tonight is on your own. We'll recommend a local fonda (canteen), established over 40 years ago by a Spanish immigrant, and run as a lunch spot for the port workers (obreros) of the area. Today the restaurant is run by the sons of the original owner, and serves one of BA’s best steaks. Be sure to try the Bife de Chorizo and the local deserts such as the flan with dulce de leche.

DAY FOUR
After breakfast at your hotel, today is yours to return to any part of the city that has particularly captivated you. But we do have suggestions! If you want the best of the best shops strike out for Arandu for leather, Perez Sanz for handbags, Casa Lopez for leather clothing, Comme Il Faut for tango shoes that will double as your favorite, sexiest evening shoes!
Tonight, if you wish, see an Argentine Tango performance in a small café-concert space, with a 1950’s Parisian ambiance in the Faena Hotel. The city’s best tango dancers, singers and the live band come together making the show a vivid experience resembling the Porteño Glam of the early 20th century.
