Martha’s Vineyard Fishing Experience

An island off of the southern coast of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard is home to a community of people deeply connected to their surroundings and their land, leaving so much for visitors to explore.

THE ITINERARY

DAY ONE

Take a 45-minute ferry ride from Woods Hole arriving into Vineyard Haven early this evening. Upon arrival, drive “up island” (as Islanders call it) to the Beach Plum Inn, nestled among colorful gardens overlooking Menemsha harbor. A peaceful hideaway, the inn offers comfortable and cozy rooms decorated in a French country style, with cottages available for larger groups.

After check in, settle in before dinner.

For dinner this evening we suggest, State Road, serving seasonally inspired and unpretentious food in a warmly lit and inviting setting. State Road is one of those very special restaurants, you’re guaranteed a meal you won’t forget.

If you’re looking to continue your night, the bar scene revolves around Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs. For live music, Nectar’s in Edgartown has great local and big name artists regularly stopping through.

DAY TWO

Depart from the Menemsha port early this morning for a charter fishing trip off of the Island. If you’re on the Vineyard during the fishing derby between September 11th and October 15th (the 65th this year!), there couldn’t be a more exciting time to catch bluefish and striped bass in these waters.

Upon return early this afternoon, enjoy lunch in the small fishing village of Menemsha. Stop for fried clams at The Bite, or head to Larsen’s Fish Market for lobster rolls and fresh oysters on the back dock.

Check out of the inn, and make a final stop at Morning Glory Farm in Edgartown before meeting the boat back to Woods Hole. The farm features a wide selection of Island made products (yogurt, pesto, sea salt…) and harvests everything from beets and blueberries to strawberries and squash.

Depending on where your boat leaves from and if you’re in the mood for an early dinner, try Giordano’s in Oak Bluffs or Rocco’s in Vineyard Haven for the best island pizza!
