Peru: Incan Adventure Getaway

Enjoy the thrill of Peruvian nature as you spend your days exploring the rivers and mountains of the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.

THE ITINERARY

DAY ONE

Upon arrival in Cusco, you will be transferred to your hotel so you can acclimate and rest.  During the afternoon, we will walk to appreciate the colonial city of Cusco, built over the foundations of Incan palaces. We will be able to visit the Koricancha or Temple of the Sun, where you will be able to appreciate the magnificent building work; and the Main Square, where we will visit the Cathedral, with impressive crafts on carved wood. Lastly, visit the neighborhood of San Blas, where the best artists live.

You will take part in a mystical rite called “Pago a la Tierra”, which is an offering to the earth and a means for you to better understand the Andean worldview. It is celebrated by a shaman, an Andean priest, who will give thanks to the Pacha Mama or earth mother by presenting an offering of different elements.

DAY TWO

After enjoying a buffet breakfast provided by your hotel we will pick you up and drive to Cruzpata in the pampas of Chinchero.  Here, we will test the bikes and have a safety talk about the route with the specialist guide. From here, we will begin our voyage on bicycle along a hilly track. We pass the Huaypo Lagoon to reach the experimental Agricultural Site of Moray where we will have a short visit. Our journey then continues toward the town of Maras. We will have a picnic lunch and ride downhill all the way to the Salineras of Maras (Salt mines). After visiting the Salineras, we have a 30-40 minute descent to Pichingoto in the Sacred Valley, crossing the Urubamba River where our private bus waits for us.  A nice picnic lunch is included today, enjoyed along with an astonishing view of the valley.

You will have the evening at your leisure.

DAY THREE

After a buffet breakfast this morning, we will pick you up from the hotel and we will drive to our starting point on the bank of the Sacred River of the Incas, the “Vilcanota or Urubamba”, where our adventure will begin. Upon arrival, we will have a safety talk and go over the professional equipment, your life jackets, wet suits, and helmets. On the river we will practice on the flat part following the guide´s instructions, to prepare us for the moment when we will run the river rapids with waves and small whirlpools. After approximately 2 hours on the river, we will have lunch, a typical Peruvian meal cooked by locals. After lunch we will return to the hotel.

You will have the evening at your leisure

DAY FOUR

This morning enjoy a buffet breakfast.  Awaiting you today is one of the high points in world travel: Machu Picchu. Your adventure starts with a train ride to the city of Aguas Calientes with your private local guide, where you disembark to board a bus that drives you to the actual Machu Picchu archeological site. Your visit will cover every nook and cranny of this UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. Afterwards, there is some free time for you to explore the site on your own, to relax, or to meditate. At the agreed upon hour, you will descend to Aguas Calientes for a buffet lunch at El Mapi by Inkaterra restaurant.

You have the evening to spend at your leisure with dinner included at your hotel.

DAY FIVE

After a buffet breakfast at your hotel you will have the opportunity to explore Machu Picchu once more to visit other hidden places! After a morning rediscovering this architectural masterpiece, you can come back later in the day to hike to Inti Punku – Quechua for “Sun Gate” – which is the last part of the Inca Trail, used by royal members of the Incas, on the eastern side of the Central Cordillera. After this you can also have a one-hour hike to the Inca Bridge. This bridge is a part of a mountain trail that heads west from Machu Picchu. The trail is a stone path, part of which is cut into a cliff face. A twenty-foot gap was left in this section of the carved cliff edge over a 1,900 feet drop, which could be bridged with two tree trunks, otherwise leaving the trail impassable to outsiders.

Later this afternoon, you will board the bus back to Aguas Calientes for check out, have lunch and then ride the Vistadome train back to Cusco, where you will be picked up and driven to your hotel.

This evening enjoy a buffet dinner and folklore show at Tunupa restaurant.

DAY SIX

Buffet breakfast at your hotel.  At the scheduled time you will be picked up and transferred back to the airport to connect with your flight back to Lima and your international flight.
