United States: Alaska: Heli Skiing & Wilderness Lodge

Alaska’s small, friendly capital city is a gateway to glacier hikes, off-the-map skiing and the breathtaking sight of America’s iconic wildlife.

THE ITINERARY

DAY ONE

Upon your arrival in Juneau today, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred directly to your stunning wilderness lodge, located in the heart of the Tongass National Forest, on the shores of Yankee Cove. Check in and spend the remainder of the day exploring the nine-acre property, taking in the breathtaking view of the Chilkat Mountain Range, or relaxing in your suite’s chromatherapy soaking tub.

Dinner and cocktails will be served this evening in the lodge dining area.

DAY TWO

After breakfast this morning, you’ll meet with your guide for a full safety and gear orientation. Board the helicopter on-site, and spend the first half of your day heli-skiing in gorgeous untouched Alaskan powder. Lunch and beverages will be provided during the trip.

This afternoon, visit downtown Juneau for a tour of the city and any shopping you would like to do. Your local hosts can direct you to Tlingit and other Native Alaskan art and craftwork, including fossil carvings, masks, basketry, and jewelry.

This evening, dinner will be followed by live music, and accompanied by locally-brewed craft ales.

DAY THREE

Today, fortified with a hearty breakfast at the lodge, you will venture out for a full day of glacier exploration. Transfer to the Herbert Glacier Trailhead, where your guide will begin with an orientation and provide all the necessary gear. Hike or cross-country ski to the glacier, where you will be guided through ice cave exploration, glacier trekking, and ice climbing. Lunch will be provided along the way.

Return to the trailhead, where your driver will meet you for a transfer back to the lodge for a quiet evening of dinner and cocktails in the lodge dining area, or by the fire pit.

DAY FOUR

Begin your final day with breakfast at the lodge, and then meet the motorboat that will drop you and your sea kayaks at the nearby sea lion rookery for a two-hour guided kayak voyage in the peaceful waters bordering the Tongass National Forest. In addition to seals and sea lions, you are likely to see porpoise, sea birds, and sometimes Orca.

Return to the lodge for lunch, after which you will be transferred to the airport in time to meet your departure flight, or to continue on to your next Willing Foot destination.
