THE ITINERARY

DAY ONE

Upon your arrival in Lima this evening there will be a reception and you will be transferred to your hotel in the city.

DAY TWO

Following the buffet breakfast at your hotel, you will be ready to start your day.  In the morning, visit one of Lima’s food markets to see the amazing variety of fish, fruit, and vegetables used in Peruvian food. You will be equipped with a list of names and descriptions of foods you will encounter to help you enjoy this visit even more. Afterwards, you will watch as the chefs from the famous restaurant Señorio de Sulco demonstrate how to prepare Peru’s main dishes and learn how to make an exquisite ceviche or famous lomo saltado (sautéed tenderloin strips and French fries). Rounding out this culinary experience is a delicious lunch in this same restaurant.

Later on this evening, you will enjoy a dinner buffet with the best and most representative dishes we have in Peru while being accompanied by a folklore dance show that hails from every region in Peru.

DAY THREE

Following the buffet breakfast at your hotel you will have a private transfer to the airport in Lima for your flight to Cusco.  Upon your arrival there will be a reception and you will have a transfer to Novotel Cusco where you will be staying.

Spend half of the day walking about the city of Cusco, ancient capital of the Incan Empire, where you can see the interesting blend of the Incan and Spanish cultures. The outing begins at the Koricancha Temple, an old Incan palace and main center for the worship of the sun god, Inti. Once the Spanish conquered Peru, the Dominican order built a lovely church over this temple’s foundations, the church of Santo Domingo, that is still here today. You will continue on foot to the neighborhood of San Blas, where the finest artisans in Cusco live and work.

Later this evening you will dine at Limo Restaurant, a well-known restaurant that creates the perfect balance of great food, an elegant and modern atmosphere, and ideal location right on Cusco’s main square. Limo finds a way to make your meal memorable. Traditional Peruvian flavors meet modern presentations and Asian influences to make Limo one of the more intriguing dining options in the city.

DAY FOUR

In the morning, enjoy a buffet breakfast at your hotel.  Following breakfast you will be driven to San Pedro Market, where you will experience the local life and see a whole range of products, many varieties of potatoes, meats, juices, fruits and vegetables.

Upon arrival in the market, you will receive a “budget for lunch” that mirrors the budget of a local family in Cusco — between $ 1.50 and $ 3.00 per person. With this budget you will cook a full menu: an appetizer, main dish and dessert. Guided by a chef, you will buy all the ingredients and you will try to bargain with the sellers to get special prices, as the Cusco housewives do. After you have all the ingredients, you will go to a local house where you will have your culinary session. The chef will give your instructions on how to cook a typical dish.

Later on this evening you will continue with your culinary journey.  You will find Cicciolina – another of Cusco’s famous restaurants – on the second floor of an old colonial house in Cuzco. Cicciolina is all about attention to detail, presenting delicious, cosmopolitan food, much like the city itself.

DAY FIVE

You will be served a buffet breakfast at your hotel this morning.  After breakfast, visit the community of Mullaka’s Misminay, located 75 minutes away from Cusco, and discover the distinct Andean lifestyle. Learn from the locals their ancestral knowledge by attending a seminar in one of their daily activities: weaving seminar, agricultural or ethnobotany session. During the Weaving and Dyeing Seminar, the hostess will teach you their centuries-old techniques using traditional tools such as the “Telar” and their particular plants for tints. Similarly, in the agricultural session you will learn about ancient techniques that are same ones in use today. The Ethnobotany session will show you the local herbs that are used in medicine.

For lunch, you will discover more of Peruvian Andean gastronomy – the classic meal prepared by the Incas. Pachamanca is a word made of two Quechua roots: “pacha” earth and “manca”, meaning “earthen pot”.  In this vessel everything is cooked underground to take advantage of the earth’s heat.  A most delicious meal results. After lunch, we will drive you back to your hotel in the sacred valley.

You will have the evening to spend at your leisure.

DAY SIX

Start the morning with a buffet breakfast provided by your hotel.  Awaiting you today is by far and away one of the high points in world travel: Machu Picchu. Your adventure starts on a train ride to the city of Aguas Calientes, where you disembark and then board a bus that drives you to the actual Machu Picchu archeological site. The visit covers every aspect of this UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and, afterwards, you will have free time to explore the site on your own, to relax, or to meditate. At the agreed upon hour, you will descend to Aguas Calientes for an a la carte lunch at Café Inkaterra. Later on board the train for the return trip to Cusco.  You will disembark at the Ollantaytambo Station and transferred to your hotel.

On your last evening in Peru, dine at MAP café, considered among the top 10 restaurants in Peru. Located in a prestigious museum (MAP) in Cusco and built inside a crystal cube.  This is some of the finest dining in Cusco.

DAY SEVEN

After your buffet breakfast in the hotel, there will be a private transfer to the airport at the scheduled time for your flight back to Lima to connect to your flight back home!
