Costa Rica: Pacuare River Rafting Adventure

The Pacuare River is surrounded by breathtaking canyons and stunning vegetation.

THE ITINERARY

DAY ONE

This morning you will be picked up in the lobby of your hotel and transferred to the Pacuare River.  En route, stop for a typical Costa Rican breakfast.

The Pacuare River is a popular location for white water rafting as the rainforest around it is home to many exotic animal species.  It has been recognized as one of the top five most beautiful rafting rivers by National Geographic Magazine.  Enjoy an exciting 1 to 1 ½ hour river rafting tour before reaching your lodge.

This evening, dine on gourmet delicacies and visit the upstairs lounge for a drink.  With the rest of the night at your leisure, take time to relax or enjoy the lodge’s facilities before the next day’s adventure.

DAY TWO

Wake up to the soothing sound of the river and head to the main lodge for a delicious breakfast.

After breakfast, hike through the forest to visit a Cabecar family clan.  The Cabecar Indians are the largest indigenous group in Costa Rica and live in the Talamanca Mountains.  You will have the wonderful opportunity to discover the dense ecosystem and hike the same paths that the Cabecar Indians have for centuries.

You will have the rest of your afternoon to relax and freshen up before dinner this evening.

DAY THREE

This morning, you will participate in the “Plant a Tree Program”.  By participating in this program you will be actively supporting the Bajo el Tigre Elementary School as well as contributing to the reforestation in Costa Rica.  You will be helping with maintenance and educating the children about how they can protect the environment.  Your tree will also include a small plaque with your name and the date of the planting.

The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure to relax.  This evening, enjoy dinner at your lodge.

DAY FOUR

In the morning, you will awaken to the melody of the rushing river and songs of a myriad of tropical birds. After a delicious buffet breakfast, the rafts will be launched again for the final day of your river expedition.  Exploring the second portion of the river is even more thrilling, as you experience a mixture of class III and IV rapids while being surrounded by spectacular scenery.  You may stop to explore side streams that lead to striking waterfalls and pools with a natural waterslide, tempting you to jump right in.

This afternoon, you will enjoy a midday meal of sandwiches, fruits, and desserts that will be served on an overturned raft along the water’s edge.  End the day knowing that you have conquered one of the wildest and most scenic rivers in the world.  Afterwards, change into dry clothes at the private vicinities before boarding a comfortable microbus back to San José.
