Italy: Rome 48 Hours
Rome’s history spans over 2,000 years, from a small Latin village to the center of a vast empire.
DAY ONE
Upon your arrival in Rome, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Check in and relax before beginning your first day in the city. Your boutique hotel is located in a beautifully restored historical building in the heart of the city, between Piazza del Popolo, and Spanish Steps, on one of Rome’s oldest streets. Rooms here are spacious, elegant and beautiful, with gracious amenities and contemporary comforts.
You will be met by your guide at the hotel toward afternoon and taken on a six-hour tour of Rome. You will see much of what this ancient city has to offer including the Trevi Fountain, Rome’s largest Baroque fountain, the Pantheon, a temple originally constructed in 27 BC to honor the gods of ancient Rome, and the Colosseum, the largest amphitheater of the Roman Empire, which was used for gladiator combat.
During your tour stop for lunch at a local restaurant for delicious pasta and Italian wines. After lunch, head back to your hotel to freshen up before dinner.
For dinner this evening, we suggest a local restaurant offering contemporary Italian food. The hostaria serves homemade breads and fresh, innovative dishes in a cozy dining room with exposed brick.
After dinner, take a leisurely walk back to your hotel. En route, stop to see some live music or to simply lounge in a nearby piazza and enjoy a coffee or cocktail as you watch the city come to life by night.
DAY TWO
After breakfast this morning, you will be met by your guide and taken on a wine tasting tour in a town just southeast of Rome, which is renowned for its white wine. Before tasting any of the wines, you’ll have an opportunity to witness the different methods used in their making, from classic to modern. After your visit, we recommend a home-style lunch in town before heading back into Rome by mid-afternoon.
Before returning to your hotel, you’ll have time to do some optional high-end shopping on your own around the Piazza di Spagna near the Spanish steps, or in a more trendy shopping area popular with young Romans.
This evening, you’ll be met by your driver and taken on a one-hour night tour of the city, when all of the bridges, churches, monuments, and fountains are floodlit. Views of the Roman Forum, the ruins of ancient government buildings, are especially breathtaking at night.
After dinner, you may continue your evening out or head back to your hotel.
DAY THREE
Following breakfast this morning, you will be transferred to the airport in time to meet your flight home or to continue on to your next Willing Foot destination.
This is just the beginning.
