South Africa: Astonishing Garden Route

Stretching from Heidelberg in the Western Cape, to the Storms River in the Eastern Cape, the Garden Route is a glorious stretch of country running along the southeastern coastline of South Africa. Situated between the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains and the Indian Ocean, lakes and lagoons dot the route, which comprises 10 nature reserves.

THE ITINERARY

DAY ONE

Collect your rental car this morning and drive six hours from Cape Town to your accommodation, 20 kms past Plettenberg Bay. Drive with leisure, taking in your diverse surroundings as you travel along one of the world’s most scenic routes. We will provide you with lunch recommendations and scenic stop information for your drive prior to your departure.

Upon your arrival at the rustic country lodge on the edge of Tsitsikamma National Park, take time to settle in and enjoy the tranquility of the native forests and the nearby pristine beach. You may wish to enjoy dinner, comprised of local ingredients, served in the lodge’s open dining area, overlooking the surrounding lily ponds.

DAY TWO

After a fresh breakfast, depart for a three-hour zip line adventure through the forest canopy. If you prefer to remain earthbound, you’ll take a drive through the forest in a specially-designed vehicle, allowing you to enjoy the incredible diversity of the flora and fauna in the area.

In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the region on your own. We will provide you with a list of options that include hiking, tubing, fishing, snorkeling, and a visit to the Knysna Elephant Park, an elephant reserve which allows visitors to meet, feed, and interact with these gentle giants.

DAY THREE

This morning, depart from Plettenberg Bay Beach and join the Marine Ecotour to explore the area’s marine life, passing soft coral reefs and spotting seals, dolphins, and maybe even whales along the way.

In the afternoon, you’ll have further time on your own. For the daring, the world’s highest bungee off the third highest bridge in the world is 216 meters above the Bloukrans River. Those not so keen on jumping can walk the catwalk situated at the top of the arch bridge, overlooking the gorge to the mountains and the sea in the distance.

DAY FOUR

Return your rental car to George Airport today. You will connect with your flight to the next destination or end your visit to South Africa here.
