Uruguay: Surfing Punta del Diablo
Largely populated with local fisherman and artisans, the village has a sleepy, bohemian feel to it, and provides a perfect respite from everyday life.
DAY ONE
This morning, you will be met at the airport or at your hotel in Montevideo, and transferred to collect your rental car. You will be provided with a rack to attach on top of your car to hold your surfboards.
Drive along the coast to Punta del Diablo, centered around a square of brightly-colored buildings overlooking the ocean. Arriving at your hotel this afternoon, you will have time to check in and relax before meeting with an experienced local surf guide to plan the rest of your stay.
We suggest you dine this evening at a local restaurant owned by a Spanish woman who adds her own unique touch to local Uruguayan cuisine.
DAY TWO
This morning, meet your guide and spend the morning surfing Punta del Diablo.
Your guide will direct you to a great spot for lunch in town.
After lunch, visit the Black Lagoon on your own. Located in Parque Nacional de Santa Teresa, the protected area of the Black Lagoon encompasses the lake and surrounding marshes, supporting an abundant bird population and a healthy ecosystem that includes capybaras and several species of snake. Your guide can help you to arrange an optional equestrian tour or boat ride.
Dinner this evening is recommended at a restaurant featuring a menu of fresh seafood and a lively bar open late into the night.
DAY THREE
Surf with your guide at Santa Teresa.
After your morning in the water, you will return to Punta del Diablo for lunch, drinks, and a relaxing afternoon at Rivero Beach.
Tonight, we suggest you dine at one of our favorite restaurants, selected for its fabulous view of the beach, and its menu of delicious seafood.
DAY FOUR
This morning, return to your preferred surf spot for another morning on the water with your guide. After your surf session, you will return to your hotel for lunch overlooking the beach below.
Later, visit Ombues Forest on your own. You will follow the trail toward Laguna de Castillos, entering the stunning Ombúes Woodland on foot. The hearty native Ombu tree is preserved and cultivated here in a forest where native plants and wildlife flourish.
DAY FIVE
Return to Montevideo at your leisure today. We can arrange for an overnight accommodation if your return flight departs the following day, or transfer you to your next destination if you will be continuing on to another Willing Foot itinerary.
This is just the beginning.
